About JOSKI - the story so far...

JOSKI the band - formed in April 2007 as a result of Joski wanting to take the music out to a wider and live'r audience. Mark Cauldwell joined first on Lead Guitar and then Emmet Ryan on bass in May.

Alex joined us in June, keen as hell and playing drums for eighteen different bands. we were rehearsing hard to take the JOSKI show on the road. 'She Loves' was released by JOSKI in June, as it had already been recorded and mastered. The song got to number 6 in the UK Indie store charts.

Several gigs followed in October and by March 08 we played the Camden Barfly and a great gig at Clapham Grand at end April where most of our then video was shot by Grazza (who later made the short films that you see with the JOSKI music on Youtube. These are the videos we show as a backdrop to our songs at our gigs now! Link to Grazza Vids.

The Joski mailing list and fanbase always grows at gigs - we go down well with rock, pop, indie audiences even though we are more progressive rock pop than indie - "people remember the tunes". In July 08 we performed a gig at Punk in Oxford St, W1 but without Mark and Emmett. New Bass man Kukat joined us in October and brought his style and musicality into the sound. Kukat learnt all the songs and bits really fast and Joski V2 was born.

Alex, our drummer, had too many commitments by now, with the last year of his degree course, travelling across London and playing in just too many bands he had to cut down and sadly he left us in Dec 08.

In March 09 Xande joined the band on drums. Xande is a really excellent stickman - he has really good rock feel and timing together with great jazz and latin sensibility. He has really put some extra depth in the rythmn of JOSKI.

When Sara joined on Bass in June we had a full complement again. Sara is a consumate musicician - see column on right - and now we are a serious proposition in the live and the recorded music world!

In July 09 we started Club Smash! - our own gig nite where we play each month and we invite two or three other cool bands to join us. it takes place at The Comedy Pub in Oxendon St SW1 in the Red Room. These nights are the third monday in the month and are ongoing.

In March 2010 we started work on the new EP. we were rehearsing a lot and getting the tracks hot. We wanted to record us as a band and how we as a band sound. This is why we recorded together in a big live room in Studio A at The Premesis with Jason.

This EP is now completed. It is entitled the 'Catch the Rising Sun ep' and is available by downloading the songs from this website or by coming to a gig and getting your mits on a real CD version - not MP3's - WAV files and with full cover and limited edition run of 333 individually numbered copies. Once we have exhausted the 333 copies with cover and case you will still be able to get a CD - just not the special ones.

The story keeps developing as we move on our journey into the light. come with us - Keep it locked to the JOSKI channnel - get connected to joskimusic!

JOSKI Band members

Joski

Joski - Has been through lots of music - rock, rave, ambient, glam, rock and with JOSKI the band - is bringing his songwriting and musical vision to fruition with the very excellent Jenty, Xande and Sara.

"I don't set out to write songs that vary so much within the "rock" framework as our songs do. However, I do try to let each song have its own life and direction and yet be part of the definite JOSKI sound". The tinges of Funk, Glam, Synth pop and Progressive Rock make it an interesting music experiment.

Joski also has a 'thing' about the fashion industry and would love to break the stereotypes that keep us in our place so much of the time! That's partly why he elects to always wear tights - tho not always the stripey ones!

Favourite JOSKI tracks - Catch the Rising Sun , Howard Roark

Why? - "Catch the Rising Sun because of it's immensity as a riff! and Howard Roark because it seems to me to be an almostperfect circle of a song and it is beautifully compact 2:35 "

Jenty

Jenty - Keyboard player with a fascination for synth sounds and quirky noises Jenty is also a songwriter and performer in her own right with Cambridge Folk festival and hundreds of open-mic's to her name.

Jenty loves the Triton (keyboard) for its developed sounds and the sampling facility which means she can get those wacky sounds on her other synths and use the Triton as the performance machine.

Favourite JOSKI tracks - Howard Roark, Aliveoscope

Why? - "Its a physical thing with 'Howard Roark'. The song takes you over as it is so pacey and insistant. 'Aliveoscope' because it is on a big scale. Mighty."

Sara

Sara is a Londoner born and bred - has an immense amount of experience in music for one so young and plays her trusty Fender Mustang bass with vim vigour and accuracy! Sara has her own projects running and plays with other bands/musicians too - Rachel Huggins, Selvin Thomas and Adriano Trindade.

Sara also sings in a loud Samba band and teaches music IT. Her 'Scarpi' music project made her name on the dance music scene with mini hits like 'Your Love' - recorded, mixed and produced by herself. Check out - www.myspace.com/scarpimusic

Sara is also a fan of making food and growing plants!

Favourite JOSKI tracks - "Feel Loved ", "I Know we're from the Stars ".

Why? - "Feel Loved " because of the riff and the chance to use the immense BitCrusher pedal" - which we call the 'BiatchCrusher'!

- "I Know we're from the Stars " because of the way the song grows quickly and the way the rythmn section works powerfully in the middle of the song..."

Great pic of Sara with her Mustang bass and red hair

Xande

Xande is our drummer - our powerhouse of rythmn and spark who keeps us all together. Xande has recorded albums with artists before and is also currently utilising his Latin music skills in a Brazillian music project in London.

Xande's interests include drums, music, percussion and noise!

Favourite JOSKI track - "Finest".

Why? - "I like the vibe on the song and it gives me a great opportunity to play with great power around the kit - the song has a great chorus too."
