About Joski - the story so far...

JOSKI the band - formed in April 2007 as a result of Joski wanting to take the music out to a wider and live'r audience. Mark joined first on Lead Guitar so that Joski wouldn't have to play guitar on every song and could pretend to be a big rock vocalist!.

Emmet joined on bass in late April and rehearsals started at Chez Joski while we awaited our drummmer.

Alex joined us in June, keen as mustard and playing drums for eighteen different bands. we were rehearsing hard to take the JOSKI show on the road. She Loves was released by Joski himself in June and got to number 6 in the Indie store charts.

Several gigs followed in October and by March 08 we played the Camden Barfly - where Shortlist saw us - "You should see this lot - they're a heady mix of stunning progressive music and naughtuily catchy pop tunes" and a great gig at Clapham Grand at end April where most of our video was shot by Grazza (who later made the short films that you see with the Joski music on Youtube - link - .

The Joski mailing list and fanbase always grows at gigs - we go down well with rock, pop, indie audiences even though we are more progressive rock pop than indie - "people remember the tunes".

In July 08 we performed a gig at Punk in Oxford St, W1 but without Mark and Emmett. New Bass man Kukat joined us in October and brought his style and musicality into the sound. Kukat learnt all the songs and bits really fast and Joski V2 was born.

Alex, our drummer, had too many commitments by now, with the last year of his degree course, travelling across London and playing in just too many bands he had to cut down and sadly he left us in Dec 08.

Joski 2009

The latest chapter sees new drummer Xande joining the band in March 09 and rehearsals starting with this full JOSKI line-up so that we can be taking the show on the road again in Spring 09. Xande has a good strong rock feel but with a great mix of Latin and other rythmns.

Spring is also when we have the Limited Edition EP coming out and even more new songs being recorded.

Joski Band members

Joski

Joski - Has been through lots of music - rock, rave, ambient, glam, rock and with JOSKI the band - is bringing his songwriting and musical vision to fruition with the very excellent Jenty, Kukat and Xande.

"I don't set out to write songs that vary so much within the "rock" framework but I do try to let each song have its own life and direction and yet be part of the definite JOSKI sound". The tinges of Funk, Glam, Synth pop and Jazz together with the progressive feel make it a real exploration of the boundaries of the rock stable.

Joski has a thing about the fashion industry and would love to break the stereotypes that keep us in our place so much of the time!

Favourite JOSKI tracks - Aliveoscope, Howard Roark

Why? - "Aliveoscope's grand journey into prog and Howard Roark because it seems to me a perfect circle of a song and it is beautifully compact"

Jenty

Jenty - Keyboard player with a fascination for synth sounds and quirky noises Jenty is also a songwriter and performer in her own right with Cambridge Folk festival and hundreds of open-mic's to her name.

Jenty loves the Triton (keyboard) for its developed sounds and the sampling facility which means she can get those wacky sounds on her other synths and use the Triton as the performance machine.

Favourite JOSKI tracks - Howard Roark, Aliveoscope

Why? - "Its a physical thing with 'Howard Roark'. The song takes you over as it is so pacey and insistant. 'Aliveoscope' because it is on a big scale. Mighty."

Kukat

Kukat is the bass man and has a previous track record in music, being formerly of Coventry band The Sequins. Kukat has now settled into JOSKI with ease, and has sharpened up the whole bass and rythmn of the band.

Kukat is also keen on his bicycle, clocking-up over 100 miles in good weeks. When it rains, Kukat likes to dabble in jurisprudence.

Favourite JOSKI tracks - "She Loves", "The Ever Hopeful".

Why? - "She Loves" because of the nascent loving charm of the jangly thoughtful guitar dancing atop a solid devoted bass line. Gorgeous vocals add to a shining mix of melody and ringing chords.

- "The Ever Hopeful" because of the foreboding build-up of the choppy opening bars and verse, smoothly relieved by and rewarded with the smooth singalong catchiness of the chorus.

Xande

Xande is our drummer - our powerhouse of rythmn and spark who keeps us all together. Xande has recorded albums with artists before and is also currently utilising his Latin music skills in a Brazillian music project in London.

Xande's interests include drums, music, percussion and noise!

Favourite JOSKI track - "You're One".

Why? - "I like the vibe on the song and it gives me a great opportunity to play with great energy and groove."
